The technical field of the present invention is that of containers for large caliber ammunition.
Large caliber ammunition is characterized by a large size because its mass is high (up to about 30 kg) and its length is long (about 1 m). These ammunitions consist of a projectile and a propellant charge contained in a combustible case fixed or not on the projectile. The projectiles can be arrow projectiles, projectiles with hollow charge, incendiary projectiles, or training projectiles, etc ... It is conceivable that these munitions are not very convenient to handle and must be protected. Current protections generally consist of containers incorporating means for wedging the ammunition.
Patent US-4762222 describes a container for arrow munitions comprising an internal tube inside which the front part of the ammunition is held by a wedge.
We also know the patent US-6357582 describing a boom ammunition in which the arrow projectile is immobilized by a bucket resting on the shoe.
FR-2724718 discloses a large caliber ammunition container intended to remedy the drawbacks previously mentioned in the form of a closed envelope.
We also know the patent FR-2884909 describing a container for hollow charge ammunition in which the projectile is immobilized radially by a wedge bearing on an internal envelope and longitudinally by a head wedge.
In all these documents, separate means are generally used in order to immobilize a munition radially and longitudinally. No single means has ever been proposed to ensure these two functions.
The object of the present invention is to provide a container of simple design, protecting an ammunition against severe stresses and ensuring its blocking in both directions while allowing its extraction instantaneously.
The invention therefore relates to a container for large caliber ammunition consisting of an external envelope in the form of a shell closed by a cover, characterized in that it comprises an internal envelope generally taking the external shape of the ammunition, consisting of two half-shells, inserted in the external envelope, the internal envelope comprising a front end of frustoconical shape intended to cooperate with a necking of the external envelope.
According to a characteristic of the container according to the invention, for a boom munition, the front end of the internal casing defines a housing for the shoe of the boom munition and comes to bear against the body and the shoe.
According to another characteristic of the container according to the invention, the necking of the external envelope has a part of frustoconical shape complementary to that of the front end of the internal envelope.
According to yet another characteristic of the container according to the invention, the internal envelope is open at its rear part, and is extended by a wedge applied against the base of the ammunition.
Advantageously, the external envelope is closed by a cover bearing against the wedge.
According to yet another characteristic of the container according to the invention, the container comprises a cell integral with the latter so as to constitute a double container, said cell being intended to contain an additional load and being constituted in addition to the external envelope of the cell of an internal envelope.
According to yet another characteristic of the container according to the invention, the internal envelope of the cell delimits at one end a transverse wall on which the load comes to bear and the external envelope is closed by a cover.
According to yet another characteristic of the container according to the invention, the internal envelope of the cell is perforated and delimits protuberances coming to bear against the internal wall of the external envelope.
Advantageously, the cell has a length equal to half that of said container.
The invention also relates to a double container load grouping together rows of containers in which the external envelope of the double container has grooves on one face and protuberances on the opposite face cooperating with each other to allow stacking thereof.
Advantageously, each row of containers is formed of four double containers.
A very first advantage of the invention resides in the fact that the forces exerted by the ammunition are transmitted to the internal envelope longitudinally and laterally during falls in order to offer greater resistance.
Another advantage of the invention lies in the total immobilization of the ammunition with respect to the internal envelope.
Yet another advantage of the invention lies in the immobilization of the ammunition by a single element.
Yet another advantage of the invention lies in the elimination of translational blocking wedges generating a significant reduction in the number of elements necessary for wedging the ammunition.
Yet another advantage of the invention lies in the production of a double container making it possible to protect an ammunition and its additional load.
Yet another advantage of the present invention lies in the fact that the use of large caliber weapons offers high rates of fire, because the ammunition is easily and quickly extracted from their containers.
Other characteristics, details and advantages of the invention will be better understood on reading the additional description which follows of embodiments given by way of illustration in relation to drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a view of the container according to the invention,
FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the various components of the container,
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section of the container equipped with ammunition and its additional charge, and
- Figure 4 is a view showing the assembly of a container load.
The invention will now be described in more detail. In the description which follows, a double container will be described consisting of a container or cell containing a munition and a container or cell containing an additional charge. Indeed, in certain shooting configurations, it is necessary to have ammunition to enlarge its perimeter of action by increasing the range. For this, it is necessary to add an additional charge to obtain this result. This is why the invention relates not only to an ammunition container but also to an assembly of a container of ammunition and a container of an additional load.
It goes without saying that it is possible to produce the two cells independently of one another, even if it is preferable that we have a complete set allowing the use of a single unit grouping the ammunition container and additional load container. Thus, the container of the ammunition can be an isolated unitary element.
In Figure 1, there is shown a perspective view of a double container 1 consisting of an ammunition container 2 and a container 3 of an additional load. This double container 1 constitutes in this area a complete blow.
We will therefore describe this double container knowing that it can be in the form of two cells isolated from one another.
In FIG. 1, the container 2 consists of an outer casing 4, the front end 5 of which is provided with an operating handle 9a and the rear end 6 of which is closed by a cover 8 provided with a handle maneuver 9b. In the figure, it can be seen that the outer envelope of the container 2 is provided on the visible face with bosses 10 and it and grooves 12 and 13 separated respectively by the smooth surfaces 14 and 15. It goes without saying that the bosses 10 and wall
On the container component 3, containing an 18 is closed and aligned on the same generator. On the opposite face, not visible in this figure, there are bosses and grooves of complementary shape allowing during stacking of the containers to ensure their positioning.
The design of such a container makes it possible to reinforce its resistance and thus maintain the integrity of the ammunition and of the load during, for example, a fall flat. The bosses 10 and 11 associated with the crests of the grooves 12 and 13 constitute shock absorption surfaces. In addition, the elongated shape of the front end 5 allows by deformation to absorb the shocks of the container during a fall on the tip. These forms, combined with high molecular weight polyolefin materials, allow exceptional shock absorption.
The front end 4 of the container 2 is separated from the body of the container by a constriction 16 delimiting a frustoconical 17 whose advantage will be explained below.
Figure 1, we also see the outer casing, intended for additional load, the end open by a cover 19 provided with a handle 20. This container 3 has a boss 21 taking the shape and dimensions of the boss 10 of the container 2 and a smooth surface 22 shaped transversely to that of the smooth surface 14 of the container 1. The body of the container 3 also has a groove 23.
In Figure 2, there is shown an exploded view of the elements intended to be integrated in the double container 1. There is ammunition 24 which is an ammunition provided with an arrow projectile 25 secured to a shoe 26 of known structure. This ammunition 24 is integrated in an internal envelope 27 consisting of two half-shells 27a and 27b. We see that the front part of these half-shells follows the external shape of the shoe 26 to cover it completely and thus constitute a closed shell.
The internal envelope 27 generally follows the external shape of the ammunition 24 and is intended to be inserted into the external envelope 2. It can be seen that the front end is terminated by a frustoconical part 28 intended to cooperate with the necking 16 of the '' outer casing 2.
In its internal part, the front end of the internal envelope 27 defines a housing 29 conforming to the external shape of the shoe 26 of the arrow munition 24. The internal envelope 27 therefore comes into intimate support against the body and the plates of said shoe 26. In this way, the frustoconical part 17 of the neck 16 of the container 2, which is of shape complementary to that of the front end of the internal envelope 27, constitutes for the latter a stop preventing any longitudinal translation of the ammunition whatever the direction.
Also shown in Figure 2 the load 30 which is of substantially cylindrical shape and which is capped by an inner casing 31 consisting of shells whose transverse 32 the front end defines two half-walls
This wall 32 allows the load 30 to be blocked forwards on which the load comes to bear.
The internal envelope 31 is perforated and delimits protuberances 33 intended to come to bear against the internal wall of the external envelope 4.
Finally, this figure shows the covers 8 and 19 fitted with shims intended to come into abutment respectively against the rear face of the ammunition 24 and of the load 30.
In Figure 3, there is shown a longitudinal section of the double container 1 formed in this figure of the two containers 2 and 3 joined between by a solid partition 34. This double container 1 is made in one piece obtained by molding (for example extrusion blow molding, injection) of plastics such as high density high molecular polyethylene, copolymer polypropylene.
In the container 2, the ammunition 24 inserted in the two half-shells 27a and 27b constituting the internal envelope 27 has been introduced. It can be seen that the front part 28 of the internal envelope 27 follows the shape of the shoe 26 of the ammunition 24. The front end 28 bears against the frustoconical part 17 of the external envelope 4. In this way, the ammunition 24 is held in the internal envelope and is immobilized in translation by the cooperation of the frustoconical part 17 and the front end 28.
The maintenance of the ammunition 24 is completed by a shim 35 which is applied intimately on its base during the screwing of the cover 8 at the open end to the rear part of the outer casing.
In the figure, it can be seen that the front part 5 is elongated, leaving a free space between the tip of the arrow and the transverse wall of this part. This elongation (1) represents approximately one fifth of the length of the container 2. During a fall, for example a 12 m safety fall, on the front of the container 2, this elongated part is deformed without the integrity of ammunition 24 is reached.
The load 30 is placed in the internal envelope 33 and positioned in the container 3 constituting the external envelope. This load is maintained on both sides by the shims 36 and 37 when the cover 19 is screwed.
The container according to the invention makes it possible to have a very high rate of fire because the ammunition is easily extracted. Indeed, the open end of the half-shells offers immediate accessibility. Just unscrew the cover 8 or 19, remove the shim 35 or 37 to take the ammunition or the load.
In Figure 4, there is shown a burden 38 of containers that is to say a set of ammunition as delivered to the battlefield. This burden is delivered on a pallet 39 on which the double containers 39 are stored. These containers are arranged head to tail in four rows by aligning two containers 3 of two different double containers. These containers are advantageously stacked as indicated above by matching the bosses and the grooves of the containers of two superimposed rows.
Each row of double containers is immobilized using a flange 40 positioned on the smooth surfaces 14 of the containers 2 and a link 41 positioned on the smooth surfaces 15 of the containers 2.
The burden 38 is finally strapped using the strapping 42 to complete the assembly on the pallet 39.
It can be seen that the invention offers multiple advantages both in terms of the security of ammunition and in terms of the use thereof on the battlefield. Each double container is advantageously accessible from either side of the load 38 either by the handles 9b and 20, or by the handle 9a. This allows flexibility in positioning the burden.
